The school operates on a ten day, cyclical timetable with six 53-minute periods on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. On Thursdays there are six shortened periods with an assembly and year meetings held each alternate Thursday morning. Wednesday is sport day with sport held in the afternoons.


Years 7 and 8:
receive a traditional curriculum consisting of the following subjects: English, mathematics, science, geography, history, personal development, health and physical education, music, visual art, design and technology. Year 7 also do French.


Years 9 and 10: do the compulsory subjects of English, mathematics, science, history, geography and personal development, health and physical education and as well as three elective courses chosen from the following subjects: agricultural technology, commerce, drama, food technology, , industrial technology: wood, industrial technology: metal, information software and technology, digital multimedia and visual arts.


The senior students:
select their courses from a wide variety of academic and vocational courses. The only compulsory course is English. Students must select a minimum of twelve units (6 subjects) in Year 11 and 10 units (5 subjects) in Year 12. Courses offered include agriculture, biology, business studies, chemistry, design and technology, furnishing, geography, information processes and technology, legal studies, mathematics, mathematics - general, mathematics - extension, modern history, physics, senior science, software design and development, visual arts, construction, hospitality, information technology and retail studies. Year 11 and 12 also participate in career education.

Adult learners: forty adult learners are currently enrolled at Dorrigo High School undertaking a variety of vocational education courses. Please contact the school if you would like to commence a course in 2008.


The curriculum offerings of both the junior school and senior school are expanded through the use of distance education and other flexible delivery options.
